Grid layout

FFOSSO instruments are made up from various modules arranged in the Module Grid.
The grid begins at the top left with the MIDI input, and moves through a number of rows and columns to the bottom right, where you’ll find the Audio out.
Between these two points, you can have an unlimited number of modules, which will do various things (see Modules).
Modules are connected by wires, usually sending MIDI or Audio between modules. Modules can also send Signals from one to another, which are shown in a dedicated view.
FFOSSO will automatically create wires between modules for the most part, but on more complex instruments, you will need to create your own.

Module Grid to build custom instruments

The Module Grid will look slightly differently depending if your current instrument is a factory instrument, or an instrument you created yourself. It will also reflect whether you are editing the instrument layout, or are editing a particular patch.

If you’re editing your own instruments (by loading one, or choosing New instrument in the patch selector), without anything selected, you’ll see the grid, with the module browser in the sidebar. This is where you drag modules or presets into the grid.
When you select a module, its properties are shown in the sidebar.
If you’re editing a particular patch, as opposed to the general instrument structure, you’re in Patch mode. This is shown by a purple outline around the grid. In patch mode, adding/removing modules and changing their connections is not possible, however you can adjust their properties.

If you’re looking at the grid in factory instruments, you won’t see the sidebar to add new modules.
Everything else is identical to using it with your own instruments, though you will only save as a new instrument, as it’s not possible to overwrite factory instruments.
