Orbits XY engine in FFOSSO

Orbits is a dynamic signal blending engine designed for creating morphing soundscapes. At its core, it uses an interactive XY pad to crossfade between four sound sources in real time. Each corner of the pad hosts a selectable layer, allowing for intricate combinations of textures and timbres. Movement across the XY field can be adjusted manually or driven by motion shapes such as orbits, spirals, figure-eights, or custom trajectories. These shapes introduce gestural modulation, enabling smooth, evolving transitions that transform static sources into continuous, expressive motion. The motion Progress is mapped by default to the modwheel allowing for easy performance.

The advanced settings include two tabs: Layers and FX. The Layers page offers control over blend behavior, individual layer levels, envelopes, tuning, and randomization:

The FX page provides a streamlined effects chain featuring filter, grit, EQ, compression, and reverb modules, with modulation routings that can link XY position to key parameters:
